Warning signs
Recognising Problematic Gambling Patterns
These signs do not automatically indicate a serious problem, but any cluster of them appearing regularly deserves honest attention.
Spending more time or money on gambling than originally planned.
Feeling restless, irritable or anxious when trying to reduce or stop gambling.
Repeatedly returning to gambling after losing money in an attempt to break even.
Lying to family or friends about how much time or money is spent gambling.
Borrowing money, selling items or neglecting regular bills to fund gambling.
Thinking about gambling frequently, even during unrelated daily activities.
Using gambling as a way to cope with stress, loneliness or emotional difficulties.
Neglecting work, study or personal relationships because of gambling.
Recognising these patterns in your own behaviour is a meaningful step. Asking for help is a further one. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from a conversation with a support service.
